We built the films around the connection between a curator’s account and the artwork being discussed. Interview footage provided the narrative, while views and details of the exhibits gave viewers an opportunity to look closely at the works themselves.

Framing, sequence and pace shaped the movement between interpretation and observation. Horizontal and vertical adaptations required different compositions without losing the relationship between speaker and artwork, supported by subtitles using museum-supplied material. Our contribution was to translate exhibition interpretation into films for different viewing contexts, preserving the substance of the curator’s explanation and the presence of the work.
